What could be better than gently swaying in a hammock during summer while sipping a delicious cocktail in a light breeze? Latin America is a paradise for cocktail enthusiasts. Especially summery and fruit-forward cocktails have their origins in Latin America. Of course, Hemingway's preference for Mojito and Daiquiri in Cuba is well-known. Equally famous and a must-have at any street festival in Germany is the refreshing Brazilian Caipirinha. On the other hand, Mexico stands out with the sweet and slightly bitter Tequila Sunrise. And these are just the most renowned cocktails; there are hundreds of other cocktail recipes.

The foundation for many cocktails, including Mojito and Daiquiri, is rum—a sugarcane-based spirit produced in nearly unlimited variety, prices, and qualities in many Latin American countries. Caipirinha is also made from a sugarcane-based spirit called Cachaça. And yes, there's more than one brand; Cachaça is also produced in a wide range of styles in Brazil. Mexico's national drink, on the other hand, is Tequila, made from the Agave plant.

Even simple mixed drinks can be easily crafted from these types of spirits. Very well-known and delicious is the Cuba Libre (or Nica Libre if Nicaraguan rum is used). Tequila Limón (with lemon-flavored soda), widely enjoyed in Mexico but lesser-known in other countries, is another option.

Both rum and tequila can also be savored neat. The art of distillation, tradition, and diversity are so refined that connoisseurs have a similarly high-quality selection as with whisky and cognac. The price range is also quite diverse.

Given the overwhelming variety, I don't offer a full range but instead start with a small selection of rum brands that I personally like, have a good price-performance ratio, and that I know from personal experience. Often, this is tied to one of my many journeys. I've expanded my selection to include some high-quality rums for rum enthusiasts and connoisseurs. And with Panama Pacific, I have a discovery from the last German Rum Festival in my collection, which is new to Germany but comes highly recommended. I also have selected tequilas on offer.
