Cachaça

Cachaça

Cachaça is a Brazilian spirit made from sugarcane juice. The alcohol content of Cachaça is legally limited in Brazil to a maximum of 48% vol. and must be at least 38%. Products with higher alcohol content (up to 54% vol.) must be marketed or exported as Aguardente (de cana).

Unlike most types of rum, Cachaça is made from freshly harvested sugarcane. "Cachaça" is a protected designation of origin in Brazil, meaning that Cachaça sold there must be produced in Brazil. There are around 600 different varieties of sugarcane available for its production. Cachaça is produced either industrially or traditionally. The traditional production takes place in small distilleries, with their products rarely being exported.

In Germany, Cachaça is almost exclusively sold as the base for making Caipirinha. This is quite sufficient, as Caipirinha is a truly delicious and refreshing cocktail, especially during the summer. And when making Caipirinha, it's best to use the most popular Cachaça in Brazil, just like they do on Copacabana.
